Sonos has introduced two major additions to its lineup this year: the new Beam Ultra soundbar and Amp Multi, a professional-grade multi-zone amplifier designed for larger home audio systems.
While the two products serve very different purposes, they share something important: both make it easier to build a home audio system around the way you actually use your home.
For homeowners who already have Sonos, these new products create some interesting opportunities to upgrade or expand an existing system. And for anyone considering whole-home audio or a new TV setup, they offer even more flexibility when designing a system from the ground up.

Sonos Beam Ultra: Bigger Home Theater Sound in a Compact Soundbar
The new Sonos Beam Ultra takes the compact footprint that made the Beam popular and significantly expands its home theater capabilities.
Beam Ultra features nine custom drivers, including two dedicated upward-firing drivers, to deliver true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos. The result is a more immersive experience for movies, shows, sports, and music without requiring a room full of visible speakers.
Sonos has also redesigned the center channel for clearer dialogue and added four levels of AI Speech Enhancement. That can be particularly useful in living rooms and multipurpose spaces where hearing dialogue clearly can sometimes be more important than simply making everything louder.
For homeowners who want more from their system, Beam Ultra can also serve as the starting point rather than the finished product. It can be paired with a Sonos Sub and compatible rear surrounds to create a more complete home theater system.
What does that mean if you already own Sonos?
If you already have Sonos throughout your home, Beam Ultra can integrate into that same ecosystem rather than creating a separate audio experience around your TV.
You can keep the simplicity of controlling your Sonos system while upgrading the room where you watch the most TV, movies, or sports. And because Sonos systems are designed to grow over time, you don’t necessarily need to replace everything you already own just because a new product becomes available.
For some homes, Beam Ultra may be a worthwhile upgrade. For others, the existing setup may still make perfect sense. The important part is looking at the system as a whole rather than replacing equipment simply because something newer is available.
Sonos Amp Multi: A Big Step Forward for Whole-Home Audio
The Sonos Amp Multi may be less visible than a new soundbar, but for professionally installed whole-home audio systems, it is arguably the more significant addition.
Traditional Sonos Amp has long been a useful way to bring passive in-ceiling, in-wall, and outdoor speakers into the Sonos ecosystem. Amp Multi takes that concept and expands it specifically for larger, professionally designed systems.
A single Amp Multi provides eight amplified outputs at 125 watts each and can support up to four independent audio zones. Each output can be assigned to any zone, giving us much more flexibility when designing audio around different rooms and spaces.
For example, one system could provide independent audio for a kitchen, dining room, primary bedroom, and outdoor space while keeping the equipment centralized and out of sight.
For larger homes, additional Amp Multi units can be added as needed.
Why Amp Multi Matters to Homeowners
You probably aren’t going to interact with an Amp Multi every day. In fact, in a well-designed system, you may rarely see it at all.
That’s part of the point.
Amp Multi is designed to live behind the scenes while giving you simple control over what plays throughout your home. You can choose music for an individual room, group multiple spaces together, or have different family members listen to different things in different areas.
For new construction and remodels, it also gives us a cleaner and more flexible way to design centralized audio systems with architectural speakers throughout the home.
Amp Multi also introduces ProTune, which gives professional installers more detailed control over the sound of individual outputs. Rather than treating every room the same, the system can be fine-tuned based on speaker placement, room acoustics, and how each space is actually used.
The technology stays behind the scenes. What you experience is consistent, well-balanced audio throughout the home.
Already Have a Sonos System? You May Not Need to Start Over
One of the biggest advantages of the Sonos ecosystem has always been its ability to grow over time.
Maybe you started with a soundbar in the family room. Later, you added a few wireless speakers. Now you’re remodeling and considering in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen, primary suite, or backyard.
These new products give us additional ways to build on that existing system.
That doesn’t mean every existing Sonos client needs a Beam Ultra or Amp Multi. It means there are now more options when a room needs better TV audio, when you’re adding new zones, or when a smaller Sonos setup needs to become a more complete whole-home audio system.

Starting From Scratch? Think Beyond Individual Speakers
If you’re new to Sonos, it’s easy to think about home audio one product at a time: a soundbar for the TV, a speaker for the kitchen, another speaker outside.
That approach can work, but if you’re remodeling, building a new home, or planning audio for several rooms, it pays to think about the entire system before choosing individual components.
Where do you want music? Which rooms should be able to play independently? Where do architectural speakers make sense? Which equipment should be visible, and what can be hidden? How will the system connect to your TVs, network, and other home technology?
Products like Beam Ultra and Amp Multi give us more ways to answer those questions without making the finished system more complicated to use.
Building the Right Sonos System for Your Home
At Levines Lights, our goal isn’t to put the newest piece of technology into every home. It’s to design a system that makes sense for the space, the people using it, and the technology that’s already there.
Whether you’re starting with Sonos for the first time, expanding audio into more rooms, or wondering whether the latest Sonos equipment is worth adding to an existing system, we can help you determine what makes sense and how everything should work together.
